The Development of Project Nightlights

The founders of Project Nightlights, inspired by the work of organizations across the United States devoted to helping children, looked at our community and saw a need for Project Nightlights. The organization was developed to bring comfort, joy, and healing to children with serious medical conditions through the creation of personally meaningful and artfully inspired bedroom spaces. A healing environment can be defined as a therapeutic environment that has a positive influence on the healing process and can be achieved by incorporating design elements that provide comfort, security, stimulation, a sense of control, social support, and improve the quality of life and bring comfort and hope to these seriously ill children and their families.

Kathie and her husband have five children. After graduating from college she worked in both retail and medical office management, while continuing her education at the University of Nebraska in Omaha. Six years ago Kathie decided to become a stay at home Mom and despite her busy family life, her love for children prompted her to start a in-home day care. Kathie finds that spending her days with the kids is fulfilling and has enjoyed seeing her own children grow as well as many others that have come through her doors. By starting Project Nightlights, Kathie looks forward to continuing to touch the lives of children in a very special way.
